A curious evergreen conifer with strong whorls of spiny leaves. Trees are slow growing in the first ten years, reaching 6-10ft before growing away more speedily thereafter. For the first few decades the tree produces a neat conical form before gradually dropping its lower branches and extending into a tall tree of 60ft or more over a 100 year period or so.
